. . . Whereas much of Muntadas’s previous work has relied upon the advertising image or the media image as a means of delivering his comment, Exhibition eliminates any outward signs of image-manipulation. Instead we are confronted with the “context” of a reading. The various media, normally found within an avant-garde art gallery situation. They constitute the code of our looking.

Antoni Muntadas: On Translation
An Interpretation/Translation of Muntadas’ Projects by Mary Anne Staniszewski. click here
In a 1995 manifesto the artist proclaimed his concern with the way in which the transmission of information through different systems and its subsequent translation can transform, fragment, deform and even obscure or censor any original meaning. That concern has fed the ongoing On Translation series through projects which vary greatly in terms of their formalization, projects which pose questions about such themes as the identity of artistic practice, the idea of its social value, and the possibilities of representation, curatorial interpretation, transcription and conservation of heritage. Published by MACBA, Barcelona via Editorial Actar. Staniszewski essay pp. 23 – 419. Flexi-bound, 6.25 x 8.25 in./288 pgs / 300 color, 100 Duotone. ISBN: 8495951274
