Competing Cosmologies: Interpreting the Sky explores the ways in which the space race and new discoveries in astrophysics and cosmology during the Cold War and beyond have been visualized and interpreted by visual artists on a global scale. Our aim with this exhibition is to show how artists in the East, the West, and the Global South have responded to advanced space-related scientific and technological developments and discoveries, and how they connected these new insights with specific cultural tropes.
