Maelstrom is defined as a powerful circular current of water, a whirlpool or votex which is usually the result of conflicting tides, pulling down anything caught in it currents.  As someone who was raised under a totalitarian government in the USSR, I am genuinely worried about the state of political affairs in the United States.  Further, this short term thinking is responsible for a the growing number of climate disasters we are now experiencing.
